Eclipse Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss

Johnson Dermatology is offering an exciting new product called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss.  Recently studies have shown that PRP can be successfully used to treat male and female patterned hair loss.

What is PRP?

PRP results when the red blood cells and many of the white blood cells are removed from your blood; this process leaves a fluid called plasma with high concentrations of platelets.

Why are platelets important?

Platelets are important cells in your body’s healing process because they are full of growth factors.

Why does PRP work for hair loss?

When platelets are introduced to areas of hair loss, growth factors are released that lead to hair growth.

Is PRP safe?

Yes. Side effects are uncommon; there is no potential for allergy because PRP comes from your own blood.

What happens when I receive PRP?

Blood is drawn from your arm and then the platelets are concentrated using the Eclipse PRP system.  The concentrated PRP is then injected into the areas of hair loss on your scalp.

How many treatments do I need?

Most patients need 3-4 treatments scheduled at one month intervals.  Maintenance treatments are then performed every 3-6 months.

Should I get PRP?

Not everybody is a good candidate for PRP.  The best results are seen in patients with male or female patterned hair loss.  There are many reasons for hair loss.  Your hair loss should be evaluated by a board-certified dermatologist, the experts in skin, nails, and hair.  Many patients need a medical workup to eliminate other causes of hair loss.
